Overlands I'm not doing.

There are two overlands I'm not doing. They both depart from Manta Ecuador. One is to Machu Picchu for $3000 pp and the other is to Galapagos Island for $2300 pp. They both catch up to the ship 4 days later in Lima.

To replace these I have organized the poor person's Galapagos Island and Machu Picchu imitation all in one day. For $35 we swim with sea lions and see Peruvian Boobys + $5 wetsuit rental (in case we really do want to get in the water) and for $38 we tour the Pachacamac ruins.

Swim with the Sea Lions

Above is the outfit were going with. They have a great youtube video of the trip.

We begin the trip with a panoramic view of Callao´s Bay, Peruvian´s main port and La Punta beach. We will see Navy warships as well as private yachts and sailboats.

Callao Bay and La Punta

During low tides, we will see "El Camotal", a sandbank that was once part of the port until the 1746`s earthquake, when part of Callao slipped beneath the sea.

Then we will continue our way to "San Lorenzo Island", 4Km from Callao´s Bay, the biggest (8Km) and highest (370mt) Island in Peru. Nowadays, it is a desert island where we can only find a Naval Base and the Presidential Beach House. It has a significant historical and archeological value.

San Lorenzo Island

It served as a base of operations for English and Holland pirates that harassed Callao, and also for the Spanish Army when they were trying to recover their independent colonies. During the Republic period it was a prison for political enemies of several governments.

El Fronton Island

Near San Lorenzo is "El Fronton Island" or "Death Island", where there are still the remains of the prison that was there until 1986, when it was definitively closed after a big riot.

After approximately one hour and 20 minutes sailing, we will arrive to "PALOMINO ISLANDS", where we will find thousands of sea lions and will enjoy a marvelous show watching them swimming and playing between the rocks and caverns of the island. These islands are also inhabited by sea birds as Pelicans, Guanay Cormorant, Red Legged Cormorant, Inca Tern, Peruvian Booby, and occasionally Humboldt Penguin.

Here you will have the chance to swim with the seals and/or take the best pictures from our yacht during an approximately 30- 45 minute stop. An extraordinary experience that you can´t miss.

Palomino Islands

Returnign to the north of San Lorenzo, we will find still waters where we will serve some snacks and beverages for you to enjoy the way back to the dock.

Pachacamac tour:

ANCESTRAL SHRINES Our tour will start at the Pucllana temple built in the IV century A.D., an ancestral and ceremonial site dedicated to the local divinities.

PACHACAMAC guided tour of the splendid and vast archaeological citadel of Pachacamac, the temple of the deity, Pachacamac, believed to be the creator of the universe and a divinity adored by old Andean civilizations. A sacred and ceremonial site dating back to the beginnings of Christianity where thousands of pilgrims converged to pay tribute and consult the Pachacamac oracle, who they believed could see the past, the future and people’s fate.

The site comprises pyramidal temples and enclosures built by successive pre-Colombian civilizations and finally the Incas. Highlights include the Temple of Pachacamac, the Sun God shrine, and the Palace of the Chosen Women or Virgins of the Sun.At the site museum there is an idol of the deity, Pachacamac, which couldn’t be seen by the profane, and was reserved for the high priests who kept, revered and interpreted the divine oracle in the old times. A sacred site, the temple was considered to be part of the planet’s mystical axis.

BARRANCO AND VILLA MARSHLANDS. After a visit to Barranco, a neighborhood both traditional and bohemian, and its well-known Bridge of Sighs, we will tour the beaches along the Green Coast and the Friar’s Leap ledge over the ocean, the Ecological Reserve at the Villa Marshlands, with spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean along the South Pan-American Highway.
