Auckland Sky Walk

Here is a picture of my sky walk. We weren't able to take our own cameras so this is one I bought after the walk. There were only 3 people on my walk, the other 2 were guys from Germany touring NZ. The second picture is from the viewing area which is slightly lower (10 m I believe) than the walk area. The pic is straight down through one of the acrylic floor plates. This gives you an idea of what we saw looking down from the platform.

It was great fun! You walk around the outside ring of Auckland's sky tower. There are no hand rails and you can see straight to the ground on both sides. It is 192 meters down. The guide gives you a guided tour of Auckland, pointing out landmarks and lets you know what you are seeing. It is very interesting and the view is fabulous. The only hard thing is that the wind was blowing really hard so I needed to lean into it to keep my balance on the 1 meter wide platform. When I turned around to see sights in different directions I needed to do it carefully otherwise the wind caught me and I felt like I would be swept over. The tour took about a half hour but it seemed like we were out there a bit longer. They have you take off anything that could fall to the ground and injure someone. No watches, jewelry, cameras etc. Pockets must be empty. They put glasses holders on my glasses, taped them down and then attached it to the back of my harness with a c-clip.
There are people just below on the streets and probably something as small as a coin could do serious damage if it hit them.

Here is the web site where there are probably more pictures. www.skywalk.co.nz
