With one week before sail date I have been assigned room 4050, Cat. D Oceanview on deck 4. It is a very good location and I am pleased to have a window.
A little background for my readers who are not cruisers. I booked a guarantee room. That means that in exchange for a lower price the cruise line picks the room. When you do this you could end up anywhere. In this instance I lucked out. I am mid-ship which is better for sea sickness (which I tend to get). It is low which is also better for sea sickness. It has an open deck above it which is an advantage as I am one flight of stairs away from having my own extra large shared balcony. There are crew cabins below it which should be quiet.
The disadvantages are that it is on the same hallway as the medical center which means every sick person on the ship will be going down my hall and when they throw up the hallway could smell. I also understand that the line for the medical center is often in this hall as people wait for it to open or the 3 seats inside are already taken.
I don't expect the deck above to be noisy but that is a possiblity if people walk back and forth for exercise and there is not good insulation above. However I have not read that this is a problem. I believe the deck above is much more of an advantage due to its easy accessibility. I'm going to try and find out if there are chairs there for lounging or if it is kept clear.

There are chairs outside on deck 5. You will not have any problems with the medical dept. When we were on the ship in November I went by there lots of times and did not see anyone there except the Dr. and she is nice to talk to. You will have it nice to get to the dinning room from your room. Just up the steps. You are right under the shops but that will be no problem as I did not here anything while walking the halls. You may want to spend some time in the Tahitian Lounge as it is nice and quite and great view from there. Also loved the library as it was quite there also and you can look down at the swiming pool. There are puzziles there to work on also. You are luckie to be going on the cruise and we will be following you.
