Test msg from off-line e-mail editor
Its getting close now. I want to get all my software in order before I get to the ship. As a result, I've send this test message for posting to the blog from an off-line e-mail editor. Internet access on the ship is generally slow and expensive. In order to conserve internet minutes, I've downloaded Zimbra, an application that allows me to compose msgs off-line and downloads items into my inbox so that I can review them off-line. Then I can get on the Internet on the ship, hit send/receive and then get back off again to read my e-mail. I get some Internet minutes for free due to being a Platinum passenger. We'll see how long I can make those last.

I hope this works for you. I am looking forward to all your work on this blog. Being on this ship will bring back so many memories. The crew was just great. The captian is around lots of time and talks to the passengers. The food was great. Don't forget the omlets in the morring in the buffet and the hot dogs and hambergers next to the pool. They are good. Yes you will gane some weight. There is a guy in the internet cafe that will take good care of you. I wish I could be with you on this one and will be folling you all your trip. Just 10 days to goooooooooooooooooooo.
I wish I had found your blog sooner. What I have read so far is awesome! My parents are going on this cruise and your blog may be the closest I get to following along. They are however taking a wireless enabled laptop. I installed MS Office and am hoping to get them to use the offline compose and read email functionality. At $0.50/min I am curious as to what the data rates are. Do you have any idea? Also do you know where exactly on the ship the wireless network extends?
Hi Mike,
Let your parents know it is best to buy the Internet minutes on the first day. They always have a special. 'Buy this package, get this many free' sort of thing.
I'm not sure what the data rate is but it is a shared connection so to get the best data rate you want to utilize the connection when others aren't. This means early morning and late at night or during a popular event where everyone is occupied. Also the connection slows down to correct errors whenever there is bad weather, rain, that sort of thing, in the atmosphere, so pick times when the sky is clear.
Not sure where the wireless extends but since it is a small ship I'm assuming it will be most everywhere. I guess I'll find out soon if I'm wrong. :-)
If your parents aren't part of cruise critic invite them to the cruise critic gathering. It is in the Tahitian Lounge on Jan. 15th from 11:00A - 12:00 noon. There are still some tour spots open on the shared private tours. There is going to be a cabin crawl to see all the different cabins just after the Panama Canal. We end in a full suite so get to see what they look like. In addition folks at the gathering try to meet others for bridge or other shared activities. Everyone wears a name tag (handed out there) so you start to get to know some names and see familiar faces on the ship right away. Lots of folks come who don't participate on the boards so they need not worry about that. Tell them to look for Michelle and say they are Mike's parents and I will know who they are.
