I mentioned earlier that I bought a waterproof camera, the Pentax W60 prior to the cruise. I'm happy to report that it is indeed waterproof. I have used it at the Cayman Islands, in the ship's pool, filming the sea lions in Lima and on the beach at Easter Island. The video quality of the sea lions is amazing. Everyone I've shown it to is impressed. The picture quality is generally good but you have to fiddle with the mode on occasion or force the flash. Overall I'm very happy. For a $220 camera this is a great investment for a trip like this. I can't tell you the number of times I've heard "I wish I had a water proof camera". The camera is small and lightweight. When I'm not using it while swimming I put it in the sleeve of my rash guard shirt. The rash guard shirt is another good investment. It is spf 50 and allows you to not have to try and get sunblock everywhere on your back which can be hard to do. I also brought a Velcro strap to attach the camera
to my wrist so I cannot drop it in the water. This has worked out really well as it is long enough that while on land I can put the camera in my pocket while still attached to my wrist and walk normally without detaching it from my wrist. As a result, I cannot lose it or drop it accidentally. It also provides protection against theft.
