After the cooking class we drove to the Gateway to India (pic. 1) to board our ferry to Elephanta Island. On the way our guide pulled out the Mumbai Magic treasure trove. It was a box with bags in it. Each bag had an item that they guide told you about when you pulled the item out of the bag. It was an cute way to introduce interesting information to us. We also each got a gift along with several colorful printed handout on India. I was very impressed with the tour company!
The Gateway to India is right near the Taj Mahal Hotel (pic. 2). It is a beautiful structure.
We boarded our boat and headed to the island. As we pulled out into the harbor we could see our cruise ship. It wasn't far away! However the haze in the air was thick. It was impossible to see very far along the coastline due to the haze. Our guide indicated that it is always there. Thankfully the pollution did not seem to affect my lungs as badly as it did in some other cities.

I wonder if some of that haze in the air might have been due to the heat & humidity. Was there any kind of wind when you visited? If so, what direction was it blowing, on-shore, off-shore, or parallel to the shore?
There was no wind that I remember.
