After a fabulous lunch that included a dish in a flaming coconut (that continued to burn for the entire lunch), I few on to Cambodia. Vietnam Airlines provided a gluten free meal (banana and water) for the 1 hour flight which was nice. The airplane wasn't up to the Chinese airline's standards but was equivalent to many US airlines.

Charming Vietnam
My independent overland started off with a tour in Ho Chi Minh City. This was just a time filler as my original plan was to fly right to Cambodia for touring the Angkor Wat area. However our port was in flux so the travel agent felt it was better to book a later flight and be safe. As a result I did not research things to see in Vietnam but just went along with the suggested agenda. We saw the Notre Dame Cathedral and the Old Post Office. Definitely not interesting for the Western visitor. We then went to a local market which was much more interesting. I've included three pics here. We saw a fish/meat market, a vegetable market and a goods market. I didn't buy anything but saw great bargains on items that seemed to be of pretty good quality. I would love to return to Vietnam to see more.
