After the wonderful experience of Kiyomizudera we almost headed back to the train station. However I'm really glad we did not. Next on our agenda was Kennin-ji and it was the second most fabulous place we went today so I'm glad we didn't skip it. Kennin-ji is the oldest Zen temple in Kyoto. It was a wonderful complex of buidings interconnected by open covered walkways (pic. 1). One of the walkways lead to the Twin Dragons room.
There was a golden Buddha (pic. 2) with the most wonderfully painted ceiling (pic. 3).
Dragons are believed to be protectors of the Buddhist teachings. This painting was simply stunning. It was fairly dark outside due to the rain. However this painting seemed to glow on the ceiling and was so large it was hard to take it all in. We left in awe.
