Hiroshima - Splendid!

I had an absolutely splendid time in Hiroshima. Pic. 1 is of the port where we docked. It was beautiful!

I booked the Hiroshima walking tour, which mysteriously was described as a ferry trip to Miyajima. Since that is what I wanted to do I signed up. However the night before someone told me the tour description was in error, so I checked with the tour office and they said no, it really was a ferry trip to Miyajima.

In the morning I confidently showed up, the guide outfitted us with headsets and took us to a map of Hiroshima to show us our route. He indicated a tram to the city, a walk about, and then a tram trip back to the ship. We asked, then we go on the ferry to Miyajima? No, that wasn't part of it. He asked how many of us were expecting a ferry trip to Miyajima and we all raised our hands. After a quick conf. with Princesss, we were off, to make our way to the ferry for our trip to Miyajima.

We walked to the tram. On the way we saw these parking structures which rotated the cars through, sort of like a dry cleaning rack system in the states (pic. 2). The guide explained that space was at a premium so cars were often stacked and brought back to the ground electronically. He also mentioned that the headquarters for Mazda is in Hiroshima.

We had a half hour walk + wait time for the tram plus a half hour on the tram to the train station. We then had about a 20 min. wait for the train, plus about a half hour train ride to the ferry terminal. I think we got to the ferry about noon. Our tour was to start at 9:45 and end at 1:15. We were wondering if we would end up with a very short tour of the island. However our guide inspired confidence and took very good care of us.

Looks like you had a great time at your two stops in Japan. Got to see lots of things that most people would not go see. The photos have been great and you descripe them so well. How do you like your cabin. Anytime spent in the liabery or the lounge in the front of the ship or is it just the pool. Any shows or just leting the time past for rest, I don't know what I will do after this cruise is done.

Hi Chet, I did have a great time! Thanks for following along. It is fun to get comments on the blog. My cabin is OK. I am in an outside cabin with just a window. The plus is that I paid for an inside so this is a big upgrade. The location is also good as it has less movement than many other locations in rough seas. The minus is that I would really love the view you get from a balcony with the larger window. Not so much time in library or lounge. I don't go to the shows due to the uncomfortable chairs. Sometimes I stop by but I rarely stay. When deck 5 is open I will set out there but in the cold or stormy weather when it is closed I can't. Keep following along. We have some great ports coming up!
