I've been to Japan before so have seen many temples and beautiful sights. However this temple offered a wonderful experience. In one of the temples you entered a dark underground corridor. Your left hand was to keep hold of a wood beaded rope to guide you through the darkness. It was completely dark with nothing to orient you. As you traversed the path you were intended to feel fear of the darkness and then peace with the darkness. After some twists and turns you came upon a white stone lit from above. You were to touch the stone, make a wish and feel hope. Then as you traversed more darkness you came back out into the light and were to feel happiness. It was a wonderful experience!
We also went into see a golden Buddha. There were many wonderful bronze warrior statues. Many people were lighting candles and praying to the Buddha. Seeing the intricate and stunning artwork in the statues and other items in the temples in context was a wonderful experience.
Pic. 1 is of the building that contained the golden Buddha. Unfortunately I did not get a picture of the temple with the 'traversing the dark to view the light stone' experience. Pic. 2 is of a small but attractive shrine. Pic. 3 is of a wonderful dragon at one of the washing areas.
