We next ventured into an area with beautiful gardens. The Chinese have a liking for the stones shown in pic. 1. They are showcased in the gardens everywhere. Pic. 2 is of a pretty pagoda and pic. 3 is of a intimate path through the garden area. After seeing all the large open spaces at the Summer Palace and the Forbidden city I was wondering if there were any more intimate spaces for the Emperor to enjoy. This garden area was large but divided up into more intimate spaces by buildings, trees, rocks etc.
Naturally there was the required dragon/lion statue (pic. 4).
Pic. 5 is of the Hill of Accumulated Elegance. It is piled up stones that have a path leading to the Pavilion of Imperial Scenery.
From there we went through some more large gates and exited the Forbidden City.
